Your babe is the... Potty Training King/Queen!
Quick! Somebody grab the camera, little Johnny is about to start potty-training! Congrats my toddler parenting pal, based on your results — your little one is getting ready for the big guns (aka, the potty). The signs have been there for a while now. Maybe they sneak off into the corner to do their business, nudge you to change their wet diaper, or they show interest and mimic you when you use the restroom. Either way, your babe is showing you that they’re getting ready to graduate from the diaper. (Sniff, sniff, someone pass the tissues!)Sure, it might feel bittersweet, but when you watch your little one grow and assert their independence, it’s a magical parenting moment. Now that you have a good idea of where your child’s at, let’s make sure everything else is in line for their potty training journey.Tip 1: Avoid too many changes all at onceWhile this is not always avoidable, it’s not ideal to start potty training when there are other major life events going on (or about to happen soon) such as welcoming a new sibling, starting a new school, or relocating to a new home. The golden rule is to try to give your child around three months between major life events. For example, if you’re about to welcome a new sibling in the early fall, either start potty training at the beginning of summer or in the winter. Tip 2: Prepare for the journeyAs with any transition, potty training your tot works best if you take some time to think it through before you start. Here are some things to help you prepare:Commit now to having a positive attitude for yourself and your babe.Set aside time (around 3 days) to begin the process. The first few days will require your undivided attention and commitment to learning your child’s potty cues and cleaning up accidents. Fun times! Gradually introduce your babe to the idea (if you haven’t started already).Gather supplies. Want a step-by-step guide to how to potty train? Then check out my online course, Potty Training Bootcamp!
